Thousands of Women March in Cuba in Solidarity with the Five

Some 12,000 women in the eastern Cuban province of Holguin will stage a march on Friday in solidarity with the five anti-terrorist Cubans held in the United States.

The huge march will take place in all municipalities of the eastern province in the context of the 7th International Colloquium for the Freedom of the Cuban Five and against Terrorism, underway until Saturday, ACN news agency reported.

Cuban Parliament President Ricardo Alarcon sent a message to participants at the Forum expressing his wish that the event be dedicated to the memory of US lawyer Leonard Weinglass, who was part of the defense team of the five anti-terrorist Cubans.

“Lenny´s contribution to the defense of the Five was irreplaceable…” said Alarcón who also recalled aspects of the case of Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero and Rene Gonzalez, internationally known as the Cuban Five.

One of the 300 participants at the forum is US activist Cindy Sheehan, who criticized Washington’s double-standard policy against terror.

Sheehan, whose son was killed in Iraq, said that it was shameful that the Five had been incarcerated while real terrorists like Luis Posada Carriles, are precisely free on US territory. She said her son was one of the many victims of the warmongering policy practiced by the US government. Cindy´s son Casey died in April 2004, during the US occupation of Iraq. / RHC
