Thirty-two parliamentarians attending the 50th anniversary of the Latin American Parliament and its Working Committees, taking place in Havana on September 5 -6, sent a letter to President Obama asking him to make use of his constitutional right to free Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino and Antonio Guerrero, the remaining 3 members of the Cuban 5 still incarcerated in the US.
The letter states, “Parliaments, Legislators and many international organizations and defenders of Human Rights, denounce the violations committed in this process.”
The signatories of the letter belong to the parliaments of Argentina, Aruba, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Costa Rica, Curaçao, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela and represent a growing number of elected officials in the region calling for an end to the injustice against the Cuban 5.
On June 2 of this year 23 Parliamentarians from Costa Rica sent a letter to President Obama with the same request. And this week the President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro in a public speech in Bronx New York, respectfully asked his counterpart Barack Obama to return the three Cuban anti-terrorists to their homes.
